Health maintenance popular among young people

Many young people in China rush to hospitals for massage therapy and are consumers of various health supplements throughout the year. What’s more, they also like traditional Chinese medicine therapies such as moxibustion, Guasha treatment, and Baduanjin exercise to keep fit.

Physical therapy and massage therapy are increasingly popular among young people. After prolonged periods of staying up late, some young individuals, influenced by a psychology of self-compensation and comfort, choose to consume health supplements and purchase foot-soak herb packs, hot compress patches, and so on.

Li Hao, who works in the live streaming industry in Beijing, often stays busy until late at night. He said that his monthly healthcare bill exceeded 1000 yuan. "Monthly oral health supplements cost me around 200 yuan, various foot soak herb packs and hot compress patches cost around 400 yuan, massage therapy costs 480 yuan..."

27 year-old Zhang Man works in media operations. Like Li, she often works late, and almost every day she takes oral supplements such as Vitamin C, zinc tablets, coenzyme Q10, and milk thistle. Her habit has been lasting for 5 years, with a monthly expenditure of about 500 yuan.

According to data from the China's Good Life Survey released by CCTV Finance in 2023, in the consumption ranking of 18 to 35-year-olds, health consumption ranks third in terms of young people's willingness to spend.

According to the Z Generation Nutritional Consumption Trend Report" released in 2022, young people are becoming the main force in current health consumption practices. On average, each urban resident spends over 1000 yuan per year on health maintenance, with 18 to 35-year-olds accounting for as high as 83.7% of the young consumer population.
