First Ever Plus Size Miss Universe Nepal

Jane Dipika Garrett, 23 is a Nepali beauty of 5.7 feet height but 8O kg weight with a curvy figure. But she broke stereotypes and scripted history when she made it to the semi- final of Miss Universe 2023, one of the four prestigious beauty pageants. She is the first plus size model to do so on record. She was also crowned as Miss Universe Nepal 2023, which itself was another record in beauty pageants.

Born in the US but living in Kathmandu, Dipika is not just a beauty model but is also a body positivity advocate. A nurse and business developer by profession, deals with women’s hormonal, mental, and physical health.

At the preliminary competition of the Miss Universe 2023, which took place in El Salvador in November 2023, Dipika emerged as a crowd favourite with the international session. With her participation at the competition, she also became the first ever plus-size competitor at an international beauty pageant.

Contrary to popular beliefs, international beauty pageant organisers have not specified a particular weight range for contestants. But they are expected to have a healthy and fit physique, which generally means that they should not be considered overweight or underweight. Traditionally, the contestants’ vital statistics have been with a 90-centimeter bust,60-cm waist and 90-cm hips long considered ideal. Almost all international beauty contestants look more or less the same. They are gorgeous but skinny.

There are Big Four or the Big- League Pageants which refers to the four major international beauty pageants for women —Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International and Miss Earth.
