Sticky rice cake in Dehong
Many ethnic groups, such as the Dai, Jinpo, Achang, De’ang and Lisu, live in west Yunnan Dehong Dai and Jingpo autonomous prefecture, and various delicious snacks can be found in local wet markets. Among them, sticky rice cake is very popular.
The soft rice cake wrapped in banana leaves resembles an ice cream cone, with a delicate, chewy and sticky texture. Making soft rice cakes requires several steps, including cleaning banana leaves, boiling water, grinding rice into paste, simmering and cooking red sugar syrup, and steaming rice paste.
