FIRST BUDDHIST UNIVERSITY IN INDIA

The Buddhist university, first of its kind in the country, was established in the North Eastern region this month. Going by the name of the top institute foundation stone of the Dhamma Dipa International Buddhist University was laid by Shakya Gasan, Buddhist Monk of the Republic of Korea and Head of the Organization of Buddhist Monks – Nun Bhikkhuni Mani of the Republic of Korea at Sabroom in South Tripura district. Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Chou-Namin, an ardent Buddhist himself who has supported several Buddhist efforts  in the North-East region was present among other  dignitaries from home and abroad. 

Bahujana Hitaya Education Trust’s chairman Dr Dharmapriya Dhammapiya who took the maiden initiative told media that the Dalai Lama unfortunately was not able to attend physically, but has sent a message of his spiritual participation. BHET is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) working in the field of education and other socio-economic issues.

This  university will set a precedent in the history of Indian-Buddhism in promoting and reviving Buddhist culture in India. Dhammadipa International Buddhist University embodies four distinct characteristics: the word, Dhammadipa, describes both a core principle and a guiding force, which seeks the light of Dharma, its international scope and measure.

The University will contribute to the highest level of knowledge and education. At the same time, it will prepare students and youth with knowledge and skills, so that they can live healthy, peaceful and contented lives, able to lead the way of life.
