Cricket has nothing to do with Tigers. Not even remotely. But former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar often shares incredible videos and images on Twitter. Recently, he took to the microblogging site to share a stunning picture of a tiger that he captured on the occasion of International Tiger Day on July 29.

The day was International Tiger Day (July 29) and the cricket legend posted a picture expressing his love for tigers and inviting others to share their best pictures of these magnificent creatures in the wild. The image depicts a tiger seated on a rock in a jungle, exuding a fierce expression that adds to its captivating aura.

“Tiger is one of my favourite animals. On #InternationalTigerDay, show me one of the best pictures of Tigers you’ve clicked in the wild. Here’s one clicked by me,” read the caption. The post has garnered as many as 1.7 lakh likes and is still counting. People praised the former cricketer’s photography skills and others shared their own images of tigers in the wild.

Today, there are 54 tiger reserves across India, spanning 75,000 sq km. The current population of tigers in the country stands at 3,167 up from mere 1,411 in 2006. The numbers saw a 6.74 per cent increase since 2018 (when they stood at 2,967), as per figures from the 5th cycle of India’s Tiger Census, released by Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier this year to mark 50 years of Project Tiger. Globally India is home to two thirds of the tiger population which is an excellent success story.
