Red-billed gulls from Russia reach Kunming for winter
Some 100 red-billed sea gulls have arrived in central Yunnan’s Dianchi Lake area for wintering by October 12, kicking off the birds’ annual migration between southwest China and Siberia in east Russia.
Since their first encounter with the Spring City in 1985, the birds seem to have fallen in love with the mild climate here, as well as the generous residents and tourists who offered them food for leisure.
Yunnan has put effort in eco-conservation and wild-animal protection over the years, resulting in an increasing number of the red-billed sea gulls wintering in the province.
