FILM ON CLIMATE CHANGE WINS AWARD IN ITALY

complex subject with various factors responsible for the phenomenon affecting almost all individuals in the world. But a film project strived to make the complex science and data around climate change more tangible through the experiences of people. The focus is on how individuals and communities are adapting to the climate crisis, especially by embracing nature-based solutions and using traditional wisdom.
Titled as “Faces of Climate Resilience”, a 16-part short documentary series that captures the voices of climate-vulnerable people in India including those in the Himalayas, has also bagged the 2023 CMCC Climate Change Communication Award ‘Rebecca Ballestra’ in Florence, Italy. The project stood out among 372 entries from over 50 countries. The CMCC Foundation, established in 2005 with the support of the Italian Ministries of Education and Environment, sponsors the award. The filmmakers captured the stories of climate resilience from Uttarakhand and other states.
Earlier in 2022, Faces of Climate Resilience has won awards at the Documentaries Without Border International Festival (U.S.) and the Aravali International Film Festival (India). Faces of Climate Resilience was produced by the CEEW in partnership with the India Climate Collaborative, EdelGive Foundation and Drokpa Films. Climate communications specialists Milan George Jacob working at the Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), New Delhi, was the creative producer of the series. Shawn Sebastian, an independent journalist, directed the films.
The film could become a toolkit” for the leadership, communities, media and individuals in addressing climate change.
Film shot in the Himalayas shown in the US. An Indian film shot in a school in the Himalayas- “Girls will be Girls” by Shuchi Talati, writer- director of the film was premiered and received accolades in the Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the United States recently. The film is about a young girl’s sexuality and competition facing her own young mother.
The film was among the first titles picked to compete in the festival’s world dramatic competition. A Sundance programmer said at the film’s premiere. It is a delicately spun duel for attention between the teen girl and her young mother, after she befriends an attractive new classmate at her boarding school.
