LMC marathon held in Dali, Ethiopians winning titles

The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Dali Marathon 2024 was held late May in west Yunnan’s Dali prefecture.

The marathon opening was attended by officials and diplomats from the six LMC countries, including China, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam.

Thong Khon said that Dali is a beautiful place rich in cultural heritages, and the Dali marathon will further promote regional exchanges in sports, culture and tourism.

2024 is the year for China-Cambodia People-to-People Exchange, and after the marathon, the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and the Sports Bureau of Yunnan Province signed the cooperation agreement on a twin-city race between the Angkor “Empire” Marathon and the LMC Dali Marathon.

A total of 15,700 runners gathered in Dali for the marathon, of whom 2,000 participated in the full marathon and 6,500 in the half marathon.

The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) Dali Marathon 2024 is held late May.

The first place for men's full marathon in Dali was won by Ethiopian Zerihun Demeke Taye in 2:17:57, while the title for women's full marathon was won by Ethiopian BEKELE BURTUKAN YIFRU in 2:40:09.

Chinese woman runner Huang Zuolan secured the second place in 2:46:51.
