Love in the 90s is the “first ever” movie in Tagin language of Arunachal Pradesh, locally shot with actors and actresses from the Himalayan state. The trailer of this unique film was inaugurated at New Delhi by Kiren Rijiju, Union Minister who also belongs to the state.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said Films are the biggest promoters of a culture or a place. He also  announced   that the film “Love in 90s” will be tax free and that he will ask the state government to promote it through other means as well. The film looks at displaying the culture of the Tagin community before the whole country and the world, Rijiju said while urging people to watch it.

Rijiju also urged the film makers of North East to make movies in regional languages highlighting the local lifestyle and culture and refrain from copying Bollywood or Hollywood films.

Making films in the line of national or international level kills the local authenticity and does not do any good to the region like North East, he said. “There is no harm in the regional films dubbed in Hindi, English or any other language since it will spread the indigenous culture of the different parts of  India,  “the Union   Minister   said. But making films by imitating Hindi, English or Southern movies will not help the region, he added.

Rijiju admitted the limited box office success of the local films but said that both the Union and the Central Governments are promoting regional films through various incentives. The regional films have also successfully created tourist inflow to the remote area contributing to the economy as happened in case of Jammu and Kashmir earlier, he said.

The trailer showcases the vibrant and colorful world of the 90s, making ‘Love in 90’s’ the first-ever movie based on the Tagin community in the Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh and  entirely in the Tagin language. It was directed by Tapen  Natam.   It brings the rich culture, tradition, and local movie-making initiatives of Arunachal Pradesh to the national stage. Many artists who acted in the film were present at the event.
