2,000 cows enjoy a smart life in Gejiu
More than 2,000 newly introduced dual-purpose dairy and beef cows have recently started a smart life in Pengjiu Ranch of Gejiu city, south Yunnan’s Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture.
The cows have ID cards, wear smart collars, and enjoy formulated feed. Every aspect of a cow’s daily eating, drinking, and health management is ensured by digital technology, providing a basis for the traceability of raw milk quality and safety.
What’s more, the smart collars can collect data on feeding times and activity levels, allowing farm staff to promptly detect any behavioral abnormalities in sick ones. The barn is also equipped with automatic cow body brushes, fans, intelligent spraying systems, and constant temperature water troughs.
The newly built ranch covers an area of 21 hectares, with plans to raise 3,000 dual-purpose dairy and beef cattle of two breeds, producing 15,000 tons of high-quality raw milk annually. It is expected to drive the planting of over 666 hectares of forage and feed crops in the surrounding area, increasing the income of 2,000 farming households.
