Chinese wastewater treatment project wins global innovation top prize

A Chinese wastewater treatment project has won the global innovation top prize from the International Water Association (IWA).

The project, titled "Stimulating Technology and Market Transformation: China's Sewage Resource Concept Plant," stood out to win the IWA's overall Global Grand Innovation Award for 2024 during the World Water Congress & Exhibition held from Sunday to Thursday in Toronto.

The overall Global Grand Innovation Award winners were the Committee of China Concept Wastewater Treatment Plant and CSD Water Service Co., Ltd.

The committee's goal to address climate change, resource scarcity and sustainable living challenges took shape at the Yixing Concept Water Resource Reclamation Facility, which handles 20,000 cubic meters of wastewater daily.

"The facility boosts local water resilience, supports agriculture with nutrient-rich soil and serves as a model for sustainable wastewater management globally, inspiring further initiatives and international collaboration," said the IWA.

The IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition is held biennially. It is one of the largest global gatherings for water professionals, bringing together experts from various fields, including urban water services, agriculture and industry.
