Border villages in Wenshan become more liveable

Southeast Yunnan’s Wenshan Zhuang and Miao autonomous prefecture shares a 438-kilometer border section with north Vietnam, and the 42 Wenshan villages near the China-Vietnam boundary have been increasingly liveable.

Since 2022, Wenshan has invested 1.314 billion yuan and implemented 1020 projects for improving the infrastructure and living environment in 718 remote natural villages all over the prefecture.

As a result, all the rural roads in the border areas have been hardened, with electricity and tap water readily available. The administrative villages/communities achieved full coverage of 5G networks, and now each is equipped with one standard clinic and one kindergarten.

Walking into Heping village of Funing county, visitors were impressed by the Amomum tsao-ko economical plant that flourishes in the boundless forest.

"My family has planted more than 60 Chinese acres of Amomum tsao-ko. This year, we made a change by planting tomatoes in the 30 Chinese acres of corn field, and our income is expected to increase," said villager Deng Fumin.

At present, 30 households in the village are planting Amomum tsao-ko, with the gross area exceeding 3,600 Chinese acres. Deng added life in the village is easy for water, power, road and 5G network are readily available.

Over the years, an area of 8.616 million Chinese acres in Wenshan has been afforested, and the forest coverage of the prefecture reached 50.29%. The per capita income in Mengdong township of Malipo county has increased by more than 3,000 yuan out of tea growing.
