Yunnan runners win titles at SCO marathon 2023
The SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) Kunming Marathon 2023 took place on December 31, and Yunnan runners won titles in the full and half marathons.
Taking place along the eastern bank of the Dianchi lake, the sports event was attended by over 15,000 runners from Malaysia, Germany, Philippines, South Africa and other countries, who competed in the full marathon, the half marathon, the mass-fitness race and an SCO parent-child run.
In the women's full marathon, Yunnan athlete Yang Xinyun won the tilte in 2 hours, 38 minutes and 29 seconds, while the men's full marathon championship went to an Ethiopian runner in 2:11:51.
Yunnan runners also performed well in the half marathons. Su Yi won the men's half marathon in 1 hour, 5 minutes and 30 seconds, while Li Yingcui won the women's half marathon in 1:15:7, a record high in the event.
SCO deputy secretary-general Nuran Niyazaliev delivered a speech at the event opening, which is attended by Yunnan vice governor Yang Yang, as well as by diplomats and guests from the SCO member countries.
