China-chic highlighted in online literature

A new report released by the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) shows a steady rise in the number of authors, works and readers of China's online literature, with the number of authors reached 24.05 million and 36.2 million works, including 4.2 million new works. The number of users of China's online literature platforms reached 537 million by the end of 2023, a 9 percent year-on-year increase. Moreover, the market size of online literature reached 40.43 billion yuan, with a 3.8% year-on-year increase.

The report also highlights the integration of excellent traditional Chinese culture into diverse themes and genres of online literature, especially in historical, realistic, and science fiction genres.

Meanwhile, the increasingly mature AI technology is pushing online literature overseas, as AI translation significantly improves translation efficiency and reduces costs, making AI-translated works a choice for overseas platforms and readers.
