"We have almost everything here, such as televisions, massage chairs, books, and entertainment facilities. I come here often," said 84-year-old Hong Yuqian at the Yu’er community day care center.
The center lies in Dali city of Dali Bai autonomous prefecture in Yunnan province, and Hong receives massage therapy in the morning and spends the afternoon playing cards, chatting, and watching TV with others, making his elderly life joyful.
The center provides comprehensive elderly service including meals, healthcare, rehabilitation, and leisure entertainment. It also has fitness and rehabilitation rooms, a library, and a senior happiness canteen. Full-time caregivers offer corresponding services to meet the diverse needs of elderly residents in the community.
At 11 o'clock, the senior happiness canteen serves lunch. "Two meals a day, delicious, healthy, and affordable, solving our concerns," said the elderly as they received their meals from the staff. With ten dishes and one soup to choose from, a meal costs only a few yuan. Currently, the canteen can accommodate over 280 diners daily.
"The elderly come in the morning, rest after lunch, and return home in the evening," said Zhao Manxu, a staff at the community. “I think this resolves the issue of their children being too busy with work during the day to care for the elderly, allowing young people to focus on their jobs.” The day care center has introduced a new community elderly care model of day care plus home care, allowing the elderly to enjoy high-quality services close to their house.
