Asia's first deepwater jacket platform construction completed in China
Asia's first deepwater jacket, Haiji-2, independently designed and developed by China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), completed construction on Tuesday in Zhuhai City, south China's Guangdong Province, according to CNOOC, the country's top offshore oil and gas producer.
By the end of March, the deepwater jacket will be installed as scheduled in China's first deepwater oilfield, the Liuhua oilfield, in the Pearl River Mouth Basin of the South China Sea, the China Media Group reported.
The jacket platform serves as the foundation for supporting and fixing the huge body of offshore oil and gas platforms, used widely across the world. Haiji-2, with a height of 338 meters and a weight of 37,000 tonnes, incorporates more than 20,000 tonnes of high-strength steel, making it the first case of large-scale application of domestically produced high-strength steel in marine engineering.
The project sets a record in Asia in terms of structural height, weight, operating depth and construction speed, signifying that China's capability of independent design and construction for deepwater super-large jacket platforms has reached an advanced level.
The completion of Haiji-2 is expected to further promote the development of the domestic marine oil and gas key equipment supply chain in China, said Wang Huoping, chief engineer of the Deepwater Engineering and Construction Center of CNOOC's Shenzhen branch.
