Hebei senior makes over 4,000 clay birds with hands
In a workshop, Li Xuefang is busy making clay sculptures of birds. Li is a folk artist in Taocheng district of Hengshui city in north China’s Hebei province. Through kneading, pinching, and shaping processes, he gave birth to a vivid bird in less than ten minutes.
68-year-old Li has used sculpting clay and polymer clay to create over 4,000 birds of more than 160 species from Hengshui lake, including cranes, herons, terns, and teal ducks. Each bird displays a unique form. The reason why Li does this is that he hopes to raise local awareness to love birds and protect the environment.
