Yunnan heritages at water festival liked by int'l visitors
Tens of thousands of tourists and residents gathered on banks of the Lancang River section, upper reach of the Mekong River, in south Yunnan’s Xishuangbanna prefecture for the 2024 Water-splashing Festival, or the 1386 New Year on Dai calendar.
Among them are a group of international communicators from the US, Russia and the Mekong countries, who were impressed by local cultural heritages displayed during the festival's mass parade.
The Water-Splashing Festival has different names in the Mekong countries. It’s Songkran Festival in Thailand, but in Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia, the water festival is called Pi Mai Lao, Thingyan Festival and Chaul Chnam Thmey respectively.
