Tropical fruits bring extra income to Luchun villagers

In April, the jack fruit and ananas trees are thriving in Ganlongtan village of Honghe Hani and Yi autonomous prefecture in Yunnan province. Villagers are busy harvesting, packing and transporting the fruits.

Covering an area of over 300 acres (about 20 ha), the fruit bases are for sugar apples, Feizixiao litchi, jaboticaba, and wax apples. Pineapples and sugar apples are exported to markets in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and other cities.

The thriving industry has also created job opportunities for locals. The planting bases and fruit processing factories provide about 100 job opportunities annually, turning villagers into industrial workers.

Each person can earn an additional income of around 30,000 yuan per year, and the factories also offer free training in planting and management techniques.

"Many of my families go elsewhere for jobs. With companies in the village, we can work right at our doorstep," said Bai Fuxian, a villager.
