Flowers in Kunming sell better during holiday
During the May Day holiday, the Dounan Flower Market in Chenggong district of Kunming city, capital of Yunnan province, received many more tourists than usual, especially young people. They wore flower crowns, carried bouquets, and ate flower cakes as they visited. Of course, people bought many flowers at the same time.
"There are all kinds of fresh flowers here, I really like it," said Zhou Yuxi, a tourist from Jiangxi province, holding a bouquet of flowers while hanging with friends. "I'll buy some more and have them delivered back home. So easy!"
With a variety of colors and affordable prices, the market offers 117 categories and over 1,600 varieties of fresh flowers daily. The flowers are exported to more than 50 countries and regions. As the largest flower trading market in Asia, the Dounan Flower Market has long become a popular destination for locals and tourists.
Ma Ling and her husband Cai Jianhua have been selling flowers at the Dounan Flower Market for many years. Roses, tulips, peonies, delphiniums, and other flowers fill their stalls, with continuous inquiries and purchases from citizens and tourists.
"Compared to last year, there are more people this year. During the holidays, there are many more tourists than usual, and sales can double,” said Ma, “so, we also prepare more goods for customers." Many out-of-town tourists have their flowers directly sent back home. Because of the good quality, many tourists added them as WeChat contacts and become repeat customers.
In the auction trading hall of Kunming Dounan Agricultural Products Auction Co., Ltd., over 300 flower agents watched the flower categories displayed on the large screen and the rapidly descending prices. They quickly pressed buttons at suitable prices for their desired flowers.
Cao Yang, vice general manager of the corporation, said: "Our auction categories mainly focus on roses. During the holiday season, there is a high demand in the wedding market, and the flowers auctioned will be sent to various parts of the country.”
