Tengchong shadow play shines at Shenzhen fair
"Based on a complete cowhide, the picture is carved and colored in accordance with the steps of making shadow puppetry," said Li Nan at the ongoing 20th China (Shenzhen) International Cultural Industries Fair, south China’s Guangdong province.
Traditional Chinese shadow plays are a type of folk drama in which silhouettes made of animal hide or cardboard are projected onto a white screen. The performer manipulates the characters behind the screen while singing to tell the story.

In west Yunnan’s Tengchong city lives a number of shadow players, and Li, head of Tengchong Liujiazhai Shadow Play Trading Co., Ltd., was busy introducing the traditional art at the Shenzhen fair.
"Some businesses have expressed their intention to cooperate with us and I hope that we can set up a sales station in Shenzhen," said Li, adding he expected more people to know about the shadow play and Tengchong city through the fair.
