Wa people play Lusheng for thousands of years

Zuodu, praised as the primitive Wa tribe under the sun, is a border village in Xuelin town of Lancang county in Pu’er ciy, southwest Yunnan. The culture and history of Wa have been fully exhibited there.

Lusheng, a reed-pipe wind instrument, is a traditional instrument bearing history of Wa folks. When festivals come, Wa people will perform Lusheng and dance along the music. This is an integral part of Wa culture that lasted over a thousand years. To make a Lusheng often costs 20 days with many processes.

There is a saying goes in Wa villages: On hearing the Lusheng, people start dancing. It is commonly seen that Wa people dance around the fire playing Lusheng during festivals. Even kids can play the instruments, too.
