Nepalese journalists Discusses Press Challenges and Diplomatic Role
The Nepal-China Media Forum this evening wrapped up a discussion tackling the hurdles facing Nepal's print media and exploring the media's role in nurturing sustainable relations between Nepal and China.Held in Lalitpur, the capital city,the event saw the participation of over four dozen senior journalists from Nepal. Deepak Khanal, spokesperson for the Press Council of Nepal, presented a paper titled 'Print Media Challenges and Expectations' during the session chaired by Dev Prakash Tripathi, President of the National Network of nepalese print media.Khanal highlighted the declining readership of print media due to rapid technological advancements but stressed its continued relevance.He urged print media to evolve and adapt to modern demands,emphasizing the importance of delivering substantial news content rather than merely breaking headlines. Similarly, journalist Sitaram Bhattarai,in his paper on the 'Media's Role in Fostering Nepal-China Relations', underscored the significance of media in diplomacy.He lamented the media's failure to grasp the sensitivity of the Nepal-China relationship, warning against the dissemination of conflicting narratives that could strain bilateral ties.
Kishor Shrestha, chairman of the Nepal-China Media Forum & former chairman of press council Nepal,urged Nepali print media to innovate solutions to their current challenges,emphasizing the enduring importance of print media.He called upon media outlets to responsibly convey dialogue,cooperation,and mutual partnership between the two nations to bolster relations. Prime Minister's Press Adviser Govind Acharya expressed commitment to address the issues plaguing Nepali print media by activating relevant government agencies.He stressed the need for independent and professional media to publish relevant content and exercise caution in reporting on international affairs. Various journalists and representatives from media organizations shared their insights on the presented papers, contributing to the dialogue on current challenges and potential solutions.Notable attendees included senior journalist and ex-ambassador Kamal Prasad Koirala,among others.
