Corn-growing provides jobs for Yunnan villagers

Villagers in Mantan village of Jiangcheng Hani and Yi autonomous county, southwest Yunnan province, start their daily labor early, swiftly harvesting the Xiaohuanuo sticky corns in the field. After that, they pack the corn up and transport them to the processing plant as quickly as possible.

"We work here every day, and it's convenient since it's close to our house," said villager Yu Jiaoshuo.

To maintain the fresh taste of the corn, workers rapidly process the corn in the factory, with fresh corn immediately sent to production lines and vacuum-packed for sale.

Hu Shengyuan, head of Yunnan Xiangxun Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., explains, "Our company has 33 hectares of planting base, and the surrounding villagers have planted another 67 hectares. ”

“The villagers have signed contracts with the company, so once they harvest mature corn, they can sell it directly. We employ more than 60 workers and pay around 3 million yuan to them annually," added Hu.

Currently, Jiangcheng county has planted about 273 hectares of Xiaohuanuo corn providing local employment and increasing villagers' incomes.
