Yunnan Paralympic athletes return home with 1 gold, 3 bronzes

The Yunnan athletes, coaches and staff members, who had participated in the just-concluded Paris Paralympic Games, arrived in central Yunnan’s Kunming city via Beijing on September 11.

11 athletes from Yunnan province were selected into Team China for this Paralympics. They participated in swimming, canoeing, goalball and football for the blind, winning 1 gold and 3 bronzes.

China claimed 94 gold, 76 silver and 50 bronze medals at the Paris Paralympics, topping the medal table for the sixth consecutive time.

"Thank the towns folks for your attention and care for the disabled. It's good to be home,” said Paralympic swimmer Zou Liankang. Zou has so far won 5 golds at the Paralympics, including 3 at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio and 1 at the 2020 Paralympics in Tokyo.

Showing satisfaction with his performance over the past 12 years, Zou added he’s willing to take part in the next Paralympics in Los Angeles if possible.

"What I want to say most is thanks to the Party and country for training me and allowing me to achieve my dream via the Paralympics," said canoeist Zhong Yongyuan, flowers in hands and smiles on face.

By winning a bronze in women's 200m VL3 canoeing, Zhong made a breakthrough for China at the Paralympics. "I feel really honored," she added.
